Cheesy Little Man

Christmas baking gets a little special this year when a good friend, who is also a cheese-lover, urge me to make something cheesy for her. I patted the dust off my Parmesan Cheese biscuits recipe and rolled out the dough middle of a tiring night. The result? I will give these small, thumb sized and flaky biscuits a Thumb Up.

Happy Holidays to all :)

Snowy Ball

Chinese New Year 2011 is coming very soon.

I have something new in 'store' this year. It is only fifty cents big and it tastes of my all time favorite - hazelnut. Lazy to work your mouth? Great because it dissolves quickly in the mouth!

Christmas Butter Man

I don't quite like traditional gingerbread. Taste aside, they are usually too big, too dense, too soft for my liking. But what's Christmas without at least a cute man-shaped cookies?

To bake my miniature 'man' this year, I used sable cookie dough topped with cute little mini m&ms and demerara sugar - these colourful ones melt in your mouth, not in your hand...

WISHING ALL A MERRY WOMANLY AND MANLY XMAS!

Banana Loaf

I love sharing the moist banana loaf with my mum for our early breakfast. We bite on crispy almond flakes and licked the melted chocolate chips off the corners of our lips at the same time. It is my life's simplest pleasures.

Happy Children's Day!

The excitement of 'Children's Day' has lost it's meaning for me a long time ago...

A colleague of mine recently told me she was taking a full day leave to celebrate this special day with her boy and I started reviving my memories - Those were the innocent days when just about anything could easily bring laughter, or tears, to our then smooth and chubby faces. We looked forward to early school release and being delighted by pretty little gifts, which almost usually turned out to be something for us to munch on.

I hope the 50 kids will be equally delighted when they receive the shortbread cookies wrapped in 'flowers', 'robots' and 'airplanes'. Happy Children's Day!

Hazelnut Robust

My cousin and I have a thing for hazelnuts. Be it flavored coffee, cakes or cookies.

And so these are for those who loves HAZELNUTS! Just like we do.

Crunchy Chocolate Chips Cookies

I like the crunchiness. I like the seemingly 'big' melted chocolate chips on the mini cookies...

I like that these could be mixed with any nuts and still retained the crunch and crisp. Like what my brother said, it goes well with a cup of chamomile tea. And like what we did, fill these into a plain white bowl and it becomes one of the 'TV snacks'.

Petite Chinese new year goodies

Guilt-free petite size pineapple tarts and cashew nut cookies for us, the calories-conscious ladies who couldn't resist the temptation of grabbing some junk food off the goodies table with our itchy hands while we are being bombarded with the same questions every year.

Guys on diet are welcome to 'scoop' some too.

Cheery Valentine Day!

I used to feel exceptionally lonely whenever Valentine Day is nearing until an ex-colleague of mine gave me a box of beautifully-wrapped candies on this very special day and, with a huge warm smile, she told me...

"Girl, it's Friendship Day for us!"

This year, with lunar New Year day coincidently falling on the same date, a friend wants to spread a little 'love' to her colleagues as well. No flowers. No bears. Only shortbread cookies, chocolate chips and yellow/pink ribbons.

Merry Berry X'mas!

Christmas, a season for the loved ones, a season to give and share...

What else could be a more appropriate treat than food? This year I'm helping an old friend to bake something for her colleagues. I hope they would find these home-made butter cookies, sandwiched with blueberry jam and hazelnut chocolate spread, enjoyable.

Parmesan Cheese Biscuits

Freshly-baked cheesy biscuits...

It tastes pretty much like the texture of a mini tart.

'Grandpa' Butter Cookies

Grandpa had a dream. He dreamt of me asking him to try out these. He has dementia. He thought his dream was real. He woke up searching for my cookies jar.

I almost nagged at him again. Almost...and I was at a sudden loss for words when brother says, "Even in his dream, he knows you like baking. Ask yourself, has he ever offered to try your cookies before...?"

No, not once.

"Ah gong, gum siah, it was you that made these cookies particularly special to me."

'Smiley' Chocolate Cake

Time heals...

And sometimes, chocolate heals too. A simple cake, wishing all laughter always.

'Friendship' Shortbread Cookies

Decided to bake something for an old friend.

Something very simple, buttery and delicate. Something that requires gentle handling so it wouldn't break into a dozen pieces, just like our friendship of 13 years...

I wish her a worries-free 24th birthday.

Blueberry Jam Drops

Frankly speaking, I've never tried and didn't know how should a Jam Drop taste like...

Comes to baking, I'm still a newbie.

I have a bottle of blueberry jam. I have flour, butter, sugar, eggs and so, I whipped it up. The result was a batch of sweet and crunchy cookies with chewy blueberries centre.
